UPdate from latest vestry meeting:

The Vestry has met regularly, each month this Summer.  Some highlights have included:

  • The Vestry is provided with continual updates and discussion as to the status, progress, and logistical issues for the Tuttle House construction.  As with all construction projects of this magnitude, delays and obstacles are the norm.  As you have undoubtedly noticed, the pavers and landscaping are in and the project is nearing completion.  The new dishwasher and freezer are in and working.  Sr. Warden Steve Dresser continues to work tirelessly, meeting with the general contractors and subs, to address final issues, which will ultimately lead to the final punch list.  As the project has neared completion, we have been able to begin to use the upstairs space again.  More to follow.
  • The Church as secured a tenant for a significant portion of the Carnegie building, the Huntley Law Firm of Boise.  This is very positive news, and comes at a good time in relation to the near-completion of the Tuttle House in terms of our ability to use the Tuttle House fully again.
  • The Vestry authorized Michael Boney to sign a contract for a significant project that he has successfully pursued and for which Michael raised the necessary funding, the refurbishing of the tower chimes.  We are sure that this will add to the musical splendor with which we are blessed at St. Michael's.
  • Due to its incredible, ongoing success, the Baby Steps program continues to grapple with space needs.  The Vestry is keeping abreast of the situation and is considering all available options and working closing with Diane Bawcom, program director, to assure that this program has the physical resources necessary to remain a core component of the church's ministry.
  • The Vestry, as always, works with the Dean on the various routine financial matters, personnel items, and administrative issues.  Of interest this Summer is the extraordinarily high attendance at the Sunday 10:00 am worship service, a credit to wonderful sermons and an uplifting community atmosphere.

Matters of interest:

The Youth groups are short on volunteers. If anyone can contribute their time to this important St. Michael's ministry, please contact the Cathedral office.

Fund raising for the cathedral community

Faithful Promise is St. Michael's capital campaign, raising funds for renovation of the Cathedral, the Funsten Building and the Bishop Tuttle House. After installing a new bathroom on the main floor of the Cathedral and completing Cathedral enhancements, Capital Campaign funds will now be directed at improvements for the Tuttle House. Building renovations are coming in higher than expected and we need to encourage those of you who have not had an opportunity to contribute to do so by contacting the Cathedral office. Carnegie Building funds are targeted toward completion of the purchase of the Carnegie Building across from the Cathedral's main campus. The vision for the Carnegie Building is that it will be the future home of ministry and mission of Jesus Christ for St. Michael's. Currently, it is the home for our Baby Steps program, which is a program providing education and support to at-risk mothers in our community. Donations are being accepted toward the full purchase of the Carnegie Building by contacting the Cathedral office. Cathedral Tower Chimes is a new effort spearheaded by our music director, Michael Boney, to raise funds to repair the Deagan Tubular chimes in our Cathedral Tower in conjunction with the 50th anniversary of the Cathedral organ. If you are interested in contributing to this effort, please contact Michael Boney.
